Steptoguard®

What should you know about sore throats?

Sore throats are most often caused by an inflammatory condition known as pharyngitis, which affects almost everyone at least once a year.

There are three primary types of agents responsible for sore throats: viruses, bacteria and non-infectious factors such as mechanical, chemical or thermal irritants, gastric reflux, and allergies. However, viruses are the most common cause. This is why using antibiotics without justification is both unnecessary and potentially harmful to the body.

When the vocal cords become inflamed, this is called laryngitis.
The causes of laryngitis are often similar to those of pharyngitis, though it can also result from overusing the voice. Laryngitis is usually characterized by voice loss, hoarseness, a dry, painful cough and a dry throat. In many cases, inflammation can affect both the larynx and the pharynx.

Lozenge tablets are among the most popular remedies for soar throat.
Today, many formulations exist with various active ingredients, mechanism of action, and dosages. Some tablets have a strong local antiviral effect, containing agents, like ionised zinc, as well as natural and synthetic molecules. Others contain antibacterial agents derived from natural sources, such as propolis, or artificial substances. These ingredients provide localized relief by targeting the cause of the inflammation, offering quicker relief from symptoms such pain, swelling, and irritation.

Lozenges also target one of the most bothersome symptoms – dry throat. Traditionally, sugar has been used as a sweetener to alleviate this, but modern remedies often incorporate hyaluronic acid. Products containing synergistic ingredients are highly effective in controlling symptoms of throat infections, providing quicker relief, shorter symptom duration, and faster recovery.

Ingredients
Zink Adirex

Zinc

Zinc supports the normal function of the immune system, protects cells from oxidative stress, and is involved in cell division.

To exert its activity, zinc must be in its ionized form. The zinc acetate in Streptoguard® is 100% ionised in the oral cavity. Zinc salts that are only partially ionised do not provide the same benefits at acceptable doses.

Hialuronova Kiselina

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule with important biological functions that is naturally present in the human body. It has the ability to attract and retain a large amount of water, so it is thought to be responsible for the water content of some of the body’s tissues and is a natural humectant.

When taken in the form of a sucking tablet, hyaluronic acid forms a coating film on the mucous membrane of the throat and oral cavity, and has a beneficial effect on the feeling of comfort. As a natural humectant, hyaluronic acid tackles the unpleasant sensation of dryness in the throat.
