What should be known about edema?
Swelling commonly develops after trauma such as sprains, contusions, or fractures, as well as in the postoperative period – particularly following orthopedic surgery, where tissues are subjected to significant mechanical stress.
In these cases, swelling is part of the natural recovery process. In some other, edema results from impaired lymphatic function – for example, when lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes are obstructed or damaged, leading to lymphedema.
Swelling may affect various parts of the body – most commonly the limbs, but also the face, abdomen, or other dependent regions. Mild, transient edema often resolves spontaneously. However, more pronounced or persistent one may result in functional impairment, cosmetic deformity, restricted mobility, discomfort, and delayed recovery.
Therefore, timely management of edema is an important aspect of patient care. Modern therapeutic approaches aim not only to reduce swelling, but also to support lymphatic drainage, control local inflammation, and promote optimal tissue repair.

Bromelain
Bromelain is a plant-derived proteolytic enzyme that supports the normal breakdown of fibrin and helps maintain healthy blood and lymphatic circulation. It also contributes to normal vascular relaxation and the maintenance of vessel permeability.
Horse Chestnut Extract
Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) has been known and used for centuries. The most valuable part of the plant is the fruit extract, standardized for its content of escin, a natural active compound widely used in Europe.
Aescin is a mixture of plant saponins that support the normal function of the venous and lymphatic systems. Consequently, horse chestnut extract is commonly used in conditions associated with fluid retention and temporary tissue congestion. It helps maintain vascular integrity and supports normal blood flow.
Circulex® contains horse chestnut extract standardized to 50% aescin, a concentration that provides a high level of active ingredient in a small dose.
Centella Asiatica Extract
Centella asiatica (also known as gotu kola or Hydrocotyle asiatica) contains valuable active compounds, including asiaticoside, madecassoside, centelloside, and asiatic acid. These substances support collagen synthesis, helping to maintain the elasticity and strength of the skin and connective tissues. Additionally, they contribute to the natural reinforcement of capillary and venous walls and support normal microcirculation.
