What is good to know about sore throat?

Sore throat is most often the result of the inflammatory disease called pharyngitis that affects almost everybody at least once a year.

There are three principal causes of throat inflammation: viruses, bacteria and non-infectious factors: mechanical, chemical, thermal irritants, gastro-oesophageal reflux and allergies. However, viruses are the most frequent cause, hence the unjustified use of antibiotics is wrong and detrimental to the organism.

If there is inflammation of the vocal cords, the diagnosis is laryngitis. The causative agents are usually the same as for pharyngitis, but it may also result from excessive straining of the voice. Laryngitis is most frequently accompanied by loss of voice, hoarse voice, dry painful cough and dry throat. Very often the inflammatory process can affect the larynx and the pharynx simultaneously.

Pastilles are among the most frequently used remedies for sore throat.

Many products are currently developed, with different mechanisms of action, composition and dose of the active substance.

Some of them are with marked antiviral effect and contain different antiviral agents, notably ionised zinc, natural and synthetic molecules. Others contain antibacterial agents, both of natural origin, e.g. propolis, and artificially synthesised active substances. Their local effect on the causes of the inflammation contributes to faster relief of the symptoms (sore throat, swelling, irritation, etc.) and assist in the faster coping with the infection causing them.

The pastilles are intended to ease one of the most irritating symptoms as well: the dryness in the throat. This problem is resolved most frequently with classical sweeteners, e.g. sugar, or with more modern means, e.g. hyaluronic acid.

The medication with ingredients having a synergic effect guarantee high effectiveness in the symptomatic treatment of throat infections, resulting in faster alleviation of the symptoms, shorter duration and faster healing.

WHAT IS STREPTOGUARD?

STREPTOGUARD is a pastille that releases 5 mg ionised zinc, 2 mg propolis, 10 mg hyaluronic acid and 20 mg vitamin С. It has a favourable effect on the health and function of the throat, tonsils, respiratory tract and the mucosa of the oral cavity.

It contributes to the protection of the cells against oxidative stress and enhances the feeling of comfort in the throat, respiratory tract and oral cavity.

Each STREPTOGUARD pastille contains:

  • 5 mg - Ionised zinc
  • 2 mg - PWEтм-MD aqueous extract of Brazilian propolis
  • 10 mg - Hyaluronic acid
  • 20 mg - Vitamin C

STREPTOGUARD is a food additive.

  • Zinc contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, to the protection of the cells against oxidative stress, and it participates in the process of their division. In order to exercise its positive effect, the zinc needs to be in an ionised state. The zinc acetate used in Streptoguard undergoes 100% ionisation in the oral cavity. The partially ionised zinc forms (salts) lack the effect described above in the admissible doses.
  • PWEтм-MD is aqueous extract of Brazilian propolis, standardised for organic aromatic acids. It is obtained using a unique Green Extractionтм method only with water, without chemical solvents, which secures a high concentration of the biologically active substances, excellent solubility and bioavailability, as well as exceptional purity and absence of undesired admixtures and bee wax. The Brazilian propolis has a specific composition that is characteristic only for that region of the world, as well as high content of organic aromatic acids and a specific phenolic profile, which have a clinically proven effect on the throat, tonsils, respiratory tract and the mucosa of the oral cavity and the sinuses.
  • Hyaluronic acid is a molecule with important biological functions, which is naturally contained in the human body. It has the capacity of attracting and retaining a large quantity of water, hence it is believed to be responsible for the water content of some of the tissues of the organism and it is a natural moisturising agent. When administered in the form of pastilles, hyaluronic acid forms a film covering the mucosa of the throat and the oral cavity, and has a positive effect on the sensation of comfort.
  • Vitamin С offers strong antioxidant protection in the oral cavity and the throat. It assists and strengthens the normal function of the immune system. It contributes to reducing the sensation of weakness and fatigue.
